Akimbo Creation is a father-daughter duo bringing weird and wonderful stories to screen.Â
Back in 2021, in the midst of the pandemic, Kim and Pascal Bonifay decided to start a production company.Â
It began as an exercise in keeping their minds occupied and inspired during lockdowns. Kim was an actor, Pascal a musician. Both their roles were impacted when sets and studios shut their doors.Â
So they did what creatives do when boredom and inaction take over. They created something.Â
The dream was big. To tell captivating stories. To create real and surreal characters. To build universes. And most importantly, to bring together like-minded artists to collaborate on these projects.Â
Bringing stories to screen
Kim started scripting the first Akimbo project in 2018. It was based on an old idea of Pascal’s from years before.Â
A simple story set in the far future soon developed into a high-concept fantasy franchise. More ideas, stories and scripts followed.Â
But how to bring these wild and wonderful stories to screen?Â
They started with six short films. Each serving as a visual experiment to see how their ideas translated from script to screen.Â
With a minimal budget and a tight-knit crew, they completed six shorts in under three years.
‘Baby Boo’, ‘Dysmorphic Reality’, ‘Logged In’, and ‘The Bathtub’ were all shot in one-day sprints.Â
They were joined on each project by local creatives, cinematographers and actors.Â
Their shorts have now started to make waves on the festival circuit - most recently ‘Logged In’, selected at the 2024 Chelsea Film Festival.Â
What’s next?Â
Kim and Pascal have now moved into the next phase of their journey.Â
In 2025 they will be packaging feature films, writing books to solidify their IP and finding the right partners to bring these ideas to the big screen.
They retain ownership over every project they’ve developed and all currently in development.Â
Their vision remains clear.Â
Dream big.Â
Tell captivating stories.Â
Create real and surreal characters.
Build universes.Â
And, beyond all else, to create a space for artists to be a part of all of the above.Â
